Leftover Halloween Candy? Put Them in Pancakes!

If you and/or your children have amassed a huge pile of candy, and aren't sure you want to store it all, Lifehacker's Food & Beverage editor Claire Lower has a great solution: chop it up and put it in pancakes. Chocolate based candy works better than the fruity kind, as it melts into the batter, "creeps to the surface of the pancakes, and caramelizes into toffee-like bits," she says, adding that the concoction is deceptively powerful. "You only need one mini bar per cake, or one “fun size” bar for two cakes. You may be tempted to chop a whole bunch of bars and add them to your bowl of batter, but I would caution you against this." Here are her simple candy/pancake directions:

  • Pour your pancake batter into the pan as usual.
  • Chop up the bar, and then sprinkle the chopped chocolate into the batter.
  • Flip when you start to see bubbles throughout the pancake.
  • Finish cooking according to your usual recipe’s instructions.
  • Serve with butter, but maybe hold the syrup.
