Bringing another human into the world is no easy feat, but one super mom in Colorado managed to do it on the same day she passed her nursing exam AND saved a stranger’s life, too. Meredith Bates was in preterm labor at Children’s Hospital Colorado in Colorado Springs, but after hours of contractions, her doctor suggested she had time to leave and take her nursing exam since the baby wasn’t expected for a while and he thought it might relieve some stress.
The mom-to-be headed to her test and made a pit stop at Starbucks on the way, where her day got even crazier. A woman inside was having a heart attack and Meredith was the only one around who knew what to do. She saved the stranger’s life, then carried on with her day by taking her nursing exam - all while in labor with her baby boy.
She then returned to the hospital and gave birth to her son, Jack. Later she found out she passed her nursing exam and she’s pretty humble about all of it. “When I think of the whole experience, I don’t feel like I did anything incredible,” Meredith explains. “For Starbucks, someone needed help, and of course, I wanted to help.” And to top it all off, her sister Jess Hover, made a TikTok about it that’s gone viral with more than a million views.
