Keith Urban Admits Fans Get Handsy When He Goes Into Crowds

Keith Urban stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to talk about his new album, share how fans get too handsy when he goes into crowds and more!

HIGH, Urban’s new album, is out now! “Dodge In A Silverado” was added last to the record because it came in last minute. They were done making the record, but Urban called his producer, Dan Huff, and said they needed to add it. There are 11 songs on the album which is the exact number he wanted. He didn’t want to make an album with too many songs because he wanted people to be able to truly listen to it top to bottom in one sitting and live with the music, and he felt like 11 songs were solid enough to do that. He shared that there are so many distractions today with media, that no one has the time to listen to a 20-30 track album, so making a record with quality songs that people could listen to fully was important to him.

In 2020 when he released The Speed of Now, he never got to play it live because of the pandemic. It made him realize that touring really brings the songs on an album to life, so he’s excited to put on a tour focused on the HIGH album. He’s hitting the road next year and when he puts his tour together, the stage plot and set list are very important to him. He really focuses on making sure the right vibe comes off the stage. Urban still feels like he is in the “prove it” stage of his life. Every stage is a brand-new game to him and he’s always trying to be better than he was from the last show. Urban likes to run into the crowd at his shows and admitted sometimes the fans get too handsy with him. He’s come home from shows with claw marks across his chest from a fan's fingernails. He called it “just part of the job.”

Urban’s wife, Nicole Kidman, shared that he bought her a Lamborghini, but she prefers to drive her Subaru still, so Urban will drive the Lamborghini around. He’s very into cars and got it from his father who always loved them. Growing up in Australia, he always had American cars and that passion has stayed with him throughout life!

Urban is playing the iHeart Radio Music Festival on Saturday September 21. You can watch on Hulu at 10:30/9:30 CT.
