A metal detectorist responds to a plea from a stranger on Facebook, finding his lost wedding ring and returning it to him. Daryll Leslie was swimming with a friend off the coast of Isle of Lewis in Scotland last month. As they were walking back to their car, he noticed that his wedding ring – which had been handmade by his wife – was missing. "I looked at my hand and I was gutted," Leslie says. "It’s kind of a material thing, but it’s even more important because me and my wife spent a day making each others’ wedding rings. It’s not easily replaceable."

Desperate to find the ring, Leslie turned to Facebook so see if anyone could help. Metal detectorist Stephen MacLeod, who lives on the Isle of Lewis, saw the post and agreed to search for the ring. MacLeod didn’t think that there was much chance of finding the ring, but he and some friends went out to try anyway. "We were looking for over an hour and there was nothing happening," MacLeod says. "I thought it was long gone, even while we were looking, we didn’t really expect to find it."

After looking for a bit, MacLeod’s metal detector picked up something. "I knew straight away before I started digging that was it," he says. "It was an amazing feeling." After finding the ring, MacLeod sent the ring back to Leslie in Edinburgh and it arrived just in time for the couple's second anniversary.
