You may not be hearing a lot of music news today. In the wake of George Floyd’s death, and the protests that are going on around the country, the music industry has declared today “Black Out Tuesday.”
The day is being billed by several record labels as “a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community,” and is being promoted with the hashtag #TheShowMustBePaused. “Due to recent events please join us as we take an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change,” reads a post on Instagram. “As gatekeepers of the culture, it’s our responsibility to not only come together to celebrate the wins, but also hold each other up during a loss.”
Columbia Records noted, “This is not a day off. Instead, this is a day to reflect and figure out ways to move forward in solidarity."
- Labels taking part in the Black Out Tuesday include Columbia Records, RCA Records, Interscope records, Warner Music Group, Capitol Music Group, and Republic Records.
