Local Delaware Woman & Volunteers Serve Thousands of PB&J's to the Homeless

PB&J

A local Delaware woman who wanted to make sure no one in her community goes hungry found a way to help feed those in need during the coronavirus. Louise Eliason was concerned for the homeless and families struggling to get food, so she organized a team of 120 volunteers from her church and neighborhood and got to work.

She studied CDC guidelines and food-handling articles and found out how she could safely deliver food and came up with what she calls the “PB&J Pop-Up.” Volunteers make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and drop them off to a local nonprofit in Wilmington, The Emmanuel Dining Room, which provides meals for free. So far, her group has given away 10-thousand PB&Js.

“I was looking for a way to give back,” Eliason says. “And that was it.”
