State Lawmakers Introduce Proposal For School Feminine Hygiene Products

(Wilmington, DE) -- Some Delaware awmakers want to make sure students have access to feminine hygiene products. Yesterday, House Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst and Senator Elizabeth "Tizzy" Lockman introduced a proposal which would require all public and charter schools to provide free tampons and pads to students in grades six through 12. The proposal, which would start for the 2020-21 school year, builds off a law passed by the General Assembly last year that provides free tampons and sanitary napkins to individuals in the custody of correctional and child services. Several other states, such as New York and New Hampshire, have already passed similar school-focused legislation. Both lawmakers hope to have the proposal drafted and filed before the January session.
