Lawmaker To Introduce School Board Member Removal Bill

(Dover, DE) -- One state lawmaker wants to introduce a bill allowing for the removal of school board members. Rep. Paul Baumbach plans to file legislation in the upcoming months that could introduce steps for ethical removal, and may even include required background checks for would-be candidates. The Newark Democrat says he will talk with parents, educators and district officials among others in order to create the best steps for removal. He plans to propose the measure in December so lawmakers review it as soon as they return in 2020. Right now, elected members can only be removed by a felony conviction, with a governor request and consent of the General Assembly, or by voters during new elections.
