NCMEC Helping Smyrna Police ID Child Remains

(Smyrna, DE) -- The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is now helping Smyrna police identify a child's body found in a softball field last week. Officials from the center's forensic services unit will work to find basic biometric information which can be used to search their vast missing children's database. They say even with facial reconstruction technology identifying remains can vary in time, taking 24 hours in one case or decades in another. Local medical examiners have already determined the child, discovered at the Little Lass softball fields last Friday, is under the age of ten. Anyone with possible information should contact local police or the center at 1-800-THE-LOST.
