Blake Shelton's "Hell Right" Stirs Up Controversy

Blake Shelton just released the new song “Hell Right,” a collaboration with Trace Adkins, and it’s already causing a little bit of controversy. It seems plenty of folks think the song has Blake throwing a little shade at Lil Nas X and his mega hit “Old Town Road,” which features Billy Ray Cyrus.

The track features a line where Blake sings, “Then the girl from the small town took off the 'Old Town,' put on a little Hank Jr.," with Adkins noting, "Thank God,” but reps for Blake insist it isn’t a diss.

"It's absolutely not throwing any kind of shade at Lil Nas X at all," a spokesperson Blake shares. "Blake says this literally has nothing to do with anything at all except how much the song is played. It could have been 'Achy Breaky Heart' or any other (overplayed) song." The spokesperson also notes, “Blake talked to Billy Ray and he thought it was funny."

  • Meanwhile, Lil Nas X chimed in on the controversy. He re-tweeted the “Variety” article, and shared, "It don't slap like old town road tho,” although he later deleted the tweet.

  • ONE MORE THING! Blake may have fallen in love with a California girl in Gwen Stefani, but Blake’s good buddy Trace insists his friend is still the same country boy he’s always been. “He just really hasn’t changed, you know?” Trace tells Us Weekly. “Somebody asked me today, ‘Of all the country artists you know, which one do you think is really a country guy? The most authentic?’ And … you know, it’s Blake. He lives the life. He really does.”
