New Legislation Could Raise Smoking Age

(Dover, DE) -- Delaware Governor John Carney is backing legislation that would raise the legal age to buy cigarettes. The proposed bill would ban the sale of all tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, to anyone under the age of 21. The CDC says Delaware spends more than 500 million dollars a year to treat smoking-related incidents. If passed, Delaware will become the first state to raise the age restriction on tobacco products.
