(Annapolis, MD) -- Maryland's eastern shore may soon have a new cash crop. Delmarva-now-dot-com reports that because of Maryland lawmakers, industrial hemp might be growing in the state this year. The federal government recently removed hemp from the list of controlled substances. Also, a pilot program was passed last year in Maryland to allow farmers and researchers to work together cultivating hemp plants. Hemp plants contain less than point-three-percent THC.
