Political Newcomer Ousts State Senate Republican

(Dover, DE)  --  A political newcomer will replace Republican Greg Lavelle in Delaware's fourth Senate District.  School teacher Laura Sturgeon received 53 percent of the vote.  The race has been one of the most hotly contested on the ballot with Lavelle's position as the Senate minority whip making him a high-value target for Democrats seeking to expand their one-vote majority in the Delaware Legislature.  Democrats were successful, flipping one seat in the Senate and one seat in the House.  Former state prosecutor Krista Griffith defeated House Minority Whip Deborah Hudson, whose 24-year career made her the longest serving member of that chamber.
