As Breast Cancer Awareness month approaches, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc. is pleased to welcome runners and walkers to the first annual Battle on the Turf 5K Run/Walk and 1.5 Mile Fun Walk at the DE Turf Sports Complex in Frederica on Wednesday, September 13. This is the first-ever 5K to be held at DE Turf, central Delaware's state-of-the-art, all-turf sports destination venue.
The 5K will benefit DBCC's programs that increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms and bilingual screening navigators, and offer support and resources to women and men in the local community who are newly diagnosed or facing a recurrence of breast cancer.This high-energy, family friend race is open to women, men, and children of all ages. On-site race registration will open at 5:00 p.m. on September 13 and the 5K race and fun walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. Immediately following the race there will refreshments, music, and team and individual awards.
Online registration is available at http://www.races2run.com and costs $25 per person until September 11th at noon. Day of registration will cost $30 per person.This race is an opportunity for community members to honor breast cancer survivors and remember those who are no longer with us. Participants can register as individuals or as part of a team. Awards will be presented to top males and females in various age groups along with Teams.
The event will take place rain or shine and the 5K course is measured by Rob Muniz. NOVA Timing Systems will chip time using MyLaps bib tags. DE Turf Sports Complex is located on 4000 Bay Road (Route 1) in Frederica. All proceeds will benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition's local programs and services for those faced with breast cancer. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
