Loretta Lynn’s family shared a heartfelt message to Kacey Musgraves after the powerhouse artist performed a beautiful tribute to Lynn at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday evening (February 5). Musgraves, a six-time Grammy Award winner, took the stage at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, singing one of Lynn’s most iconic songs, “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” and playing her guitar.

“Thank you, [Kacey Musgraves], for this beautiful tribute,” Lynn’s family wrote in a tweet shared on the late country legend's Twitter account on Sunday night. “The love all of you have shown us for our mom is beyond words.”

Lynn’s family announced that she’d “passed away peacefully…in her sleep at home at her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills, [Tennessee],” the morning of October 4. She was 90. The Butcher Holler, Kentucky-born artist was known for “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “The Pill,” “”Don’t Come Home A- Drinkin,” “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” “Fist City,” “Still Woman Enough” and many other unforgettable songs throughout her decades-long career. Lynn served as an inspiration to countless other artists, including Musgraves.

Musgraves reflected, following her performance, that “10 year old me singing Loretta’s songs would never have imagined I’d be putting my hands right where she made magic for decades. (Her 1963 Epiphone was a dream to play.) Thank you to [Loretta Lynn]’s daughters for trusting me with this moment of honor tonight. She paved my path.”
