Country Music News: Tuesday June 18th

Luke Combs' new five-track EP The Prequel roars in atop Billboard's Top Country Albums chart (dated June 22), earning 48,000 equivalent album units in its first week, ending June 13, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 22,000 copies are from traditional album sales; the set earned 25.3 million on-demand audio streams for its songs in its debut frame.

Concurrently, Combs' 2017 debut LP This One's for You holds at No. 2 on Top Country Albums (27,000 units, up 4%). The set has logged 37 weeks at No. 1 on the list, the fourth-longest rule in the chart's 55-year history.

Combs is the first artist to claim the Nos. 1 and 2 spots simultaneously on Top Country Albums since Chris Stapleton on Feb. 17, 2018, when From A Room: Volume 2 governed the chart as Traveller placed at No. 2

Granger Smith and his team are honoring his late son River‘s life by giving back to those who helped his 3-year-old in the hospital following his fatal drowning accident.

Supporters close to the country star, 39, launched a fundraiser to donate funds to the Dell Children’s Medical Center in Texas, where his youngest child was treated on June 6. AT-shirt was created through the singer’s Yee Yee apparel line as a tribute to the toddler.

“This shirt has a Yee Yee Excavator on it (Riv’s favorite thing to do was watch excavators scoop up dirt) and is red – Riv’s favorite color,” the description reads.

“River was Amber and Granger Smith’s youngest son who tragically passed away on June 6, 2019. He was cared for by the wonderful staff at Dell Children’s before he passed away. Dell Children’s is the only dedicated freestanding pediatric facility in Central Texas and serves 46 counties and then some,” the statement continues.

“We feel like it’s only right to give something back to the people who were so good to the Granger Smith family,” it added.

In addition, the Smiths, who are also parents to son Lincoln, 5, and daughter London, 7, provided an update on the fundraising efforts, which continue to grow. “Current Donations Raised for Dell Children’s Medical Center: $88,088,” the update stated
