Prince Harry Wants The Royal Baby To Be A Girl

It's been exactly one week since Kensington Palace announced Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their first child together. While the next royal baby isn't due until some time in spring 2019, royal watchers are already speculating whether Meghan is carrying a boy or a girl. It turns out the Duke of Sussex already has his preference, as well. During his royal tour of Australia, Prince Harry revealed he's hoping his wife is carrying a little girl

While attending a cycling event at the Invictus Games in Sydney on Sunday,  a fan called out to the father-to-be saying she hopes the baby is a girl. Prince Harry calls back to the fan, "so do I!" The whole exchange was caught on video and shared on the Instagram account @harry_meghan_updates.

Not only are royal watchers speculating on what gender the baby will be, but they're also starting to bet on what the baby's name will be. This is a common practice in England when a royal reveals they're expecting a child. According to People, British "oddsmakers" are already accepting bets on what the child's name will be. If Meghan has a little girl, like Harry's hoping she will, Victoria, Alice, and Mary currently have the highest odds.

When Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed their second child, Princess Charlotte, in 2015, the name Charlotte had been the favorite of baby name gamblers for some time. It's fun to think that these betting games influence the Royals' decision on what to name their children, however, the reality is much more boring. Time reports that it's likely the front-running name gets leaked by somebody on "the inside."

Perhaps the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will welcome a little girl named Victoria, Alice or Mary in the spring. We'll just have to wait and see!
