At the Macungie, Pa., wedding of Jennifer (Sullivan) Hanks, 31, who was dressed in white, and of Patrick Hanks, 28 who was clad in a Carson Wentz jersey, after he won a bet he made with his new bride early in the football season.
The bet began last October, at a friend’s wedding after-party. Drinks were flowing, and the couple’s mutual friend, Keith Wiest, was feeling good about his team this year — so good that he made a bet with Jennifer: If the Eagles lost the 2018 Super Bowl, he would watch every episode of her beloved “The Real Housewives” — across franchises.
But if he won, Jennifer had to let Patrick wear a Carson Wentz jersey at the wedding.
While Jennifer’s an Eagles fan herself, she wasn’t as confident about their prospects as her “diehard” husband and friend. So they shook on it — and from there, “the bet took over and had a life of its own,” Patrick says.
With every Eagles win that season, more hype grew around the agreement among their circle and future wedding attendees. And when the Eagles finally did defeat the New England Patriots at the Super Bowl, Jennifer’s phone “blew up.”
The couple, who lives in Conshohocken, Pa., decided to address the bet at the end of their ceremony. After exchanging vows and rings, Patrick switched out his tuxedo jacket for Eagles gear — and they were pronounced husband and wife.
