American Graffiti, Classic Cars and Ice Cream @ Everett Theatre

Middletown Main Street, One Off Rod & Custom and the historic Everett Theatre have partnered to celebrate summer with a classic automobile cruise-in, ice cream refreshment, toy cars, and a screening of the hit film American Graffiti on Saturday, August 3rd.

Directed by George Lucas, American Graffiti presents a young, all-star cast including Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford, Charles Martin Smith, Cindy Williams, Cand Clark, Mackenzie Phillips, Bo Hopkins and Wolfman Jack.

“Where were you in ’62?” Set in Modesto, California on the last day of summer in 1962, the film – through a series of vignettes over the course of a single night – tells the coming-of-age story of a group of teenagers who spend one last night cruising the streets of town before summer break comes to an end.

On Saturday, August 3rd, beginning at 3:00 p.m., ice cream and popcorn refreshments will be provided all patrons of downtown Main Street businesses. Owners of classic or collectible cars are welcome to ‘cruise-in’ beginning at 5:00 p.m. Free movie admission will be given the ‘projectionist’s choice’ automobile.

#HotWheelsFromHeaven In partnership with Middletown’s very own award-winning hot rod shop, One Off Rod & Custom, free refreshments will also be given in exchange for donation of a toy car in support of the Eli Seth Matthews Leukemia Foundation. The toys are distributed to children’s hospitals across the country where they might bring a smile to the face of a sick child.

Discerning moviegoers will arrive early to seek out a hallowed spot – Row G, Seat 104 – the seat where renowned comedian and actor, Robin Williams, sat during a scene in the hit 1989 movie Dead Poets Society, filmed largely around Middletown and its most-cherished theater.

The Everett Theatre first opened in 1922 and, nearing its 100-year anniversary, remains the area’s cultural center for cinema and the performing arts. The Everett’s stage is home to Broadway series productions, children’s theater, and one of the largest movie screens on the Delmarva Peninsula. Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.everetttheatre.com or at the box office on the day of the show at 47 West Main Street, Middletown, Delaware 19709. Cost of admission is $8.00.
