Weird News: Thursday June 27th

In an appeal to patriotism, a car dealership in Alabama is giving away bibles, flags and guns for a Fourth of July special.

From now until July 31, Chatom Ford will offer customers a bible, American flag and a gift certificate for a 12-gauge shotgun when they purchase any new or used vehicle.

In a promotional video titled "God, Guns and Freedom," manager Koby Palmer cocks a shotgun in front of a red truck with an American flag draped across the back.

"We're going to be celebrating July Fourth a little bit differently this year," he said in the video, posted to Facebook June 19

A noticeable spelling error was discovered at a Lemon Grove intersection on Tuesday.

At the 4-way intersection of Lincoln and Washington streets, the 10News Breaking News Tracker saw that “STPO” was painted on the pavement, but it is supposed to read STOP.

“Went to the mailbox and looked at the stop sign and then on the ground and said that’s a four letter word spelled wrong!” said John Buffington, who lives near the intersection.

10News reached out to Lemon Grove officials, who issued a statement later Tuesday saying that the mistake was made Monday by a contractor and was corrected early Tuesday, adding they're, "pleased we were able to bring a smile and levity to everyone's day."

A Henry County employee suing for wrongful termination and unpaid wages had a fake intern and for years submitted false or inaccurate wage and expense claims that resulted in nearly $219,000 of improper payments, a special investigative audit made public Tuesday shows.

Jodi Sutter, 43, was fired in February 2018 as Henry County’s environmental specialist after she was unable to produce documentation for tens of thousands of dollars in expenses and admitted she lied about having an intern that she had submitted reimbursements for, according to Tuesday’s audit.
