Christa's Coat Drive Recap

A HUGE THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to all who participated in Christa's Coat Drive this year! We collected 127 coats plus a huge box filled with hats, gloves and scarves to benefit the Sunday Breakfast Mission in Wilmington. I want to personally thank my friends at Nucar Chevy who generously offered to be a drop off location for the items over a three week period. I have to give credit to Tracy in the marketing department at Nucar for sparking this type of drive a few years ago after she volunteered with me at the Sunday Breakfast Mission to pack food boxes. She mentioned she had some coats she'd like to donate and we put the word out the get some additional coat donations and dropped them off. Then ... the pandemic happened. Here we are a few years later, I was cleaning out my girls closets at the start of the school year and came across some coats I wanted to donate. First thought was, "I need to get these to the Sunday Breakfast Mission!" Introducing ... Christa's Coat Drive 2022 and here we are! A wonderful partnership between WDSD and Nucar and our passion for giving back to the community. This was a no-brainer for me as I couldn't imagine my children going outside on a cold winter day without a warm coat and my heart hurts for the hundreds of men and women who enter the bitter cold season without the proper clothing to keep them warm.

YOU help make the difference with your donations so thank you again from the bottom of my heart! When we were dropping the coats off, Rev. Tom Laymon was telling me there are about 20 kids in the residency program at the Sunday Breakfast Mission who will now have a warm coat this winter. Hearing that alone made this ALL worth it!

If you haven't seen it yet, please watch the video below of us picking up the coats at Nucar Chevy in New Castle to dropping them off to the Sunday Breakfast Mission in Wilmington.

As you watched this video, you heard about my WDSD Cares Team! I am putting together a team of volunteers who would like to join me on Tuesday, November 8th from 3-5pm at the Sunday Breakfast Mission to pack holiday food boxes. I have done this in years past and it is always such a wonderful day of giving back. I can only take 15 volunteers so please send me an email if you are interested to Christa@wdsd.com

I look forward to hearing from you!

Thank You to the team at Nucar Chevy
