Country Music News: Thursday August 15th

A pile of shoes and a basket of dog leashes waited by the door in Hunter Hayes’ Nashville home. His greyhound Cole lounged on the couch in the living room and his Beagle mix Ella sat at his feet in a would-be dining room that instead is lined with music gear and guitars. A painting by Chattanooga artist Scott Hill mounted over the fireplace commanded the room. Ethereal and lonesome in shades of blue, the painting depicts a shadowed man standing on the top of a mountain.

In early 2018, Hayes hit the reset button on his life out of necessity. His long-term relationship had just painfully ended. He had parted ways with a trusted business associate. And the 27-year-old country singer was questioning his group of friends. His house didn’t feel like his home. In search of a connection, he went to look at art. When he came across a piece by Hill, he stood in front of the painting and bawled.
