Dover International Speedway Aids Hurricane Florance Relief Efforts

DOVER — Dover International Speedway is collecting hygiene products, cleaning supplies and non-perishable food to aid the victims of Hurricane Florence, track officials said.

The community and race fans headed to Dover can drop off items to the main Dover International Speedway ticket office (Gate 11) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Saturday.

A tractor trailer supplied by Weis Markets, Dover’s official retail grocery partner, will be positioned near the entrance to the FanZone from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday to collect donations. Weis Markets will also be donating pallets of Weis Quality water to the effort.

Those that donate will be eligible to receive prizes and upgrades, including: Luxury suite passes, Monster Bridge passes, ticket

upgrades, Trackside Access passes, Monster Mile merchandise and tickets to the track’s Spring 2019 event weekend, which will be part of its 50th anniversary season.

The effort is in coordination with the NASCAR Foundation’s partnership with Feed The Children to provide relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. The storm and subsequent flooding have led to more than 40 deaths and close to $44 billion in property damage in the Southeast since the storm made landfall in North Carolina on Sept. 14.

The NASCAR Foundation has also launched a Hurricane Disaster Relief donation page that provides NASCAR Nation with one place to band together and make donations to the many affected by Florence and its aftermath. One-hundred percent of the financial contributions made at www. nascarfoundation.org/ hurricane will be used toward storm relief efforts.

“As we prepare to gather for another NASCAR tripleheader weekend at Dover, we need to remember that many Americans are suffering at this time,” said Dover International Speedway President and CEO Mike Tatoian.

“We are encouraging all of our fans to bring a donation item on Sunday to provide some form of help and hope to those whose lives have been turned upside down in recent days.”

Needed items include tarps, rakes, diapers, wipes, bleach, mops, brooms, dustpans, work gloves, disposable masks, green pad scrubbers, all-purpose cleaners, non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products.

The NASCAR tripleheader weekend at Dover International Speedway includes the “Gander Outdoors 400” Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff race on Sunday (2 p.m., NBCSN); the “Bar Harbor 200” presented by Sea Watch International NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff race (3 p.m., NBCSN) on Saturday; and the “Crosley 125” NASCAR K& N Pro Series East season finale race on Friday.
